Exco man: Go beyond classroom to expand kids’ creative outlet

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai suggested that students should be given the chance to do other things like painting murals on school walls to let their creative side bloom.

He was speaking at the launching ceremony of the Penang State Museum and Art Gallery official website portal which underwent a re-branding exercise in April this year.

The recent event at the Penang State Art Gallery in Dewan Sri Pinang was attended by some 40 representatives from learning institutions in Penang.

The representatives were mainly teachers from primary and secondary schools as well as officers from public and private higher learning institutions.

They received a bundle of three books each to be shared with their students.

Each book depicts detailed works of accomplished local artists and is estimated to be worth RM100 each.
State Museum and Art Gallery curator Haryany Mohamad said that the handover of the books represented the museum’s effort in educating society on the local visual arts scene.

“The agency’s latest activities are available on the website and the public will be able to get the necessary information there,” she said.

The newly launched website address is listed as www.penangmuseum.gov.my.
